Rundo operates within Australia's commercial passenger vehicle (CPV) frameworks. This page explains how Rundo fits into that landscape — with a focus on Victoria, where the platform first launched — what Rundo does and does not do, and what responsibilities remain with each driver.

1. Rundo is a coordination tool, not a CPV operator

Rundo is a technology platform that helps already-licensed drivers share jobs with one another. Rundo does not provide commercial passenger vehicle services, does not carry passengers, does not dispatch passengers, and does not set or collect fares. Every trip is provided by an independent driver who is separately responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements.

2. The Victorian regulatory landscape

Two bodies are most relevant to drivers using Rundo in Victoria:

• Safe Transport Victoria (STV) is the safety regulator for commercial passenger vehicles. STV was formed on 1 July 2022 from the merger of the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV) and Transport Safety Victoria. Accreditation, driver and vehicle standards, and safety duties sit with STV. See safetransport.vic.gov.au.
• The Essential Services Commission (ESC) sets the maximum fares for unbooked (rank and hail) trips under the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017. Booked trips are deregulated. The current maximum-fare schedule took effect on 23 September 2025.

3. Your responsibilities as a driver

When you use Rundo, you confirm that you are responsible for your own compliance, including:

• Holding and maintaining current CPV registration for your vehicle;
• Holding any required Safe Transport Victoria driver accreditation;
• Holding a valid driver's licence of the correct class;
• Maintaining required insurance and roadworthiness;
• Charging fares lawfully — including observing the ESC maximum-fare schedule on unbooked trips and applicable surcharge caps; and
• Meeting all other safety, tax, and operating obligations that apply to you.

Rundo verifies certain documents at sign-up to confirm eligibility, but this verification is a one-time check and is not ongoing regulatory supervision. It does not transfer any of your legal responsibilities to Rundo.

4. Fares and fare estimates

Where Rundo displays fare figures or estimates, they are indicative only and provided to help drivers assess jobs. They are based on publicly available fare references (such as the ESC schedule effective 23 September 2025) and are not set, guaranteed, or charged by Rundo. The fare actually charged to a passenger is a matter for the driver performing the trip, in accordance with the applicable rules. Key reference points under the current Victorian schedule include the regulated maximum fares for unbooked trips, the CPV Service Levy, and capped non-cash payment surcharges; drivers should always rely on the current official rates.

5. Safety features

Rundo includes community safety features, such as the Runner Registry, that let drivers share awareness of incidents. These features are community-sourced, are provided for general awareness, and do not replace your own safety judgement or any reporting obligations you may have to police or to Safe Transport Victoria. Rundo does not independently verify every report.

6. Data sovereignty

Rundo stores its primary data in Australia (the Supabase Sydney ap-southeast-2 region), supporting Australian data-handling expectations. See our Privacy Policy for full detail on how driver information is collected, stored, and protected.

7. Multi-state expansion

Rundo is available to licensed drivers nationwide across Australia and is designed to respect each state's CPV rules. Regulatory requirements differ between states. Drivers remain responsible for complying with the CPV laws and the relevant state regulator in their operating state.
